Cutting-Edge Instruments
Learn about the devices we use
AdaptDx
Brand new to our office, the AdaptDx instrument can predict if patients will suffer from macular degeneration three years before it shows up in the patient’s eye. Patients at risk of macular degeneration may then proactively take MacuHealth nutritional supplements to strengthen their macula and prevent degeneration.
The Optical Coherence Tomography Exam

The Optical Coherence Tomography Machine
We installed a new instrument entitled the Optical Coherent Tomography (OCT) Machine. The machine provides Dr. Koumjian with an image of the retinas in the back of her patients’ eyes. Using the machine, Dr. Koumjian can view the layers and specific measurement of her patients’ eyes and diagnose various diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. The test only takes a few minutes and captures in-depth information about the health of her patients’ eyes.

View of Retina using OCT Machine
The Optomap Retinal Exam
We recently installed a new instrument called the Optos, which scans the whole back of the individuals eye (retina). This instrument takes the place of dilation, which means you will not be blurred once you leave the office. An advantage of the Optos is that the scan is stored in the computer for future reference, and you get to see what your retinas look like. It’s a great invention, which is recommended for children, as well as adults. Insurances do not cover this procedure, unless there is discovered pathology. Our charge for the Optos is $50.00. More information about the Optos machine is available when you come in for your comprehensive exam.
Visual Field Instrument
Our Visual Field Instrument is used for glaucoma diagnostic testing, as well as other diseases. It takes only about 6 minutes per eye to measure your peripheral field of vision.
